The unmistakably British cycling event is back. The first Tweed Run started from Saville Row, in February 2009. When, then a group of around 300 tweed adorned ladies and gentlemen on their bicycles gathered on that February morning, little did they know that they were starting a global annual phenomenon.
The idea is simple: a gathering of well disposed individuals dressed in their best attire, going for a rather stylish ride across central London. The journey is punctuated by short stops where a spot of tea is to be enjoyed, whilst taking in the sights, and a jolly picnic is to be had. Enter for the Best Decorated Bicycle, Best Vintage Bicycle and of course, the Best Moustache prize – open to both men and women.
Rumour has it that this lovely adventure saved the Harris tweed industry. Participants described the experience as “the most fun I’ve ever had on a bike!” whilst onlookers are in for the finest display of vintage bicycles from tandems to penny-farthings. So, slip in your best tweed, get you hair done, groom your moustache and join this unique ride for an unforgettable jaunty experience.
The ride sets off at 11am from Northampton Road, EC1R 0HU. The closing ceremony takes place at Spa Fields, EC1R, usually between 4pm-6pm.
