A former bike mechanic has inspired countless of commuters riding near Liverpool Street station, London. Maxwell Emmanuel became destitute after suffering from poor health. The treatment he received to beat cancer led him to lose his job, then home and was left with no other choice but living on the streets. Despite the upheaval, Maxwell didn’t give up and you can now find him near the Cyclehoop Deluxe Repair station. He is offering his knowledge and expertise to passing cycling commuters.
Maxwell Emmanuel is happy to help fixing your bicycle, from adjusting the brakes to punctures or any other concerns. You can find him near the cycle parking facility at Liverpool Street station, Bishopgate Entrance between 3pm-8pm every day until his circumstances improved.
Maxwell’s story was first brought up by Karun Chhokar who decided to share it on this Facebook page. By doing so, he wanted to let people know where to find Maxwell but also raise awareness over homelessness and the stigma attached to it.
Cyclehoop who also shared the post said: “we are happy that one of our products has enabled someone to earn a bit of money and hopefully improve their circumstances and want to share this story with our community to raise awareness of Maxwell’s story.”
